Asia Pacific Chemical Summit Showcases Digital Transformation

The 15th Asia Pacific Chemical Summit (APCS) opened in Singapore yesterday, with 2,500 delegates gathering to discuss digitalization’s role in reshaping chemical manufacturing. Organized by the Asia Chemical Industry Council, the three-day event features 120 tech demonstrations and 50 keynote speeches, highlighting AI-driven process optimization and blockchain-enabled supply chains.
ExxonMobil’s digital division presented its predictive maintenance platform, which uses machine learning algorithms to reduce unplanned downtime by 35% at its Singapore refinery. "We’ve saved $40 million annually through early detection of equipment failures," said Exxon’s Digital Strategy Director, Lisa Wong. The system is now being rolled out across 10 Asian facilities.
South Korea’s LG Chem showcased a blockchain solution that tracks raw material origins from extraction to production, providing real-time transparency for customers in the electronics and pharmaceutical sectors. "Brand owners increasingly demand proof of sustainable sourcing," explained LG Chem’s Supply Chain Manager, Kim Tae-hoon. The system has already been adopted by Apple and Pfizer.
Workshops addressed challenges in digital adoption, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A survey by event organizers found that only 28% of Asian chemical SMEs have implemented basic IoT systems, citing high costs and skill gaps. In response, the Singapore government announced a $100 million grant program to fund digital upgrades for SMEs.
The summit also featured a startup pavilion, where 30 emerging tech firms presented innovations like AI-powered yield optimization software and drone-based warehouse management systems. Japanese startup Chemix secured $15 million in funding from venture capitalists for its chemical formulation AI platform during the event.
